About this check
What's circulating
Ads for short-drama apps promise money for watching episodes: one-minute drama episodes, a balance that grows with every one, and a cash-out at the end.
This page checks the promise these apps make, that watching pays what the ad says. It does not rate any one app.
What happened when people tried to cash out
A public broadcaster's fact-checking unit installed one of these apps after ads promised 500 baht a day for watching one-minute dramas.
The same test found that the app asked for a balance of 1,400 baht before any withdrawal.
An analysis of low-rated store reviews of another such app found a $300 withdrawal minimum, and earnings that slowed to about a cent an episode as balances neared it.
These are two apps, not all of them. They show why a balance on the screen is not money in your account, and why a first small payout does not settle whether an app pays what it advertises.
What to do
- Never pay to get paid. If an app asks for a fee, a deposit or an "upgrade" before you can withdraw, stop.
- The FTC's alert on job-offer texts says that paying to get paid is "a sure sign of a scam."
- Before you install, read the listing for the withdrawal minimum and how long reaching it takes. If it does not say, assume the rules can change after you start.
- Do not give an app your bank card, identity document or wallet code to "activate" a payout.

Frequently asked questions
Do drama apps pay real money?
VOM's check of that promise is above, with the sources it rests on. If an app asks for a fee or a deposit before a withdrawal, do not pay it.
Is it safe to install one to try?
Installing is not the main risk; paying is. Do not pay an app to withdraw, and do not hand over card or wallet details.
