3. Examine the media without treating appearance as proof

Look for inconsistencies in hands, text, reflections, shadows, faces, objects, and edges. Then stop short of treating those details as a final verdict. Record what each source actually supports. A source may confirm that an event occurred while not confirming the caption, identity, motive, or date attached to a circulating image. If the evidence does not settle the claim, label it inconclusive rather than turning uncertainty into a yes or no.

5. Check for pressure and requested action

A message deserves extra caution when it pushes you to act before checking it, especially when the requested action involves money, credentials, private information, or forwarding the message. Do not use urgency as evidence that the story is true. Treat the requested action and the factual claim as separate things to evaluate.

This manual method helps answer two questions: what the content appears to be, and what the evidence can actually establish. It does not make uncertainty disappear. It also does not require you to decide that every unusual image is a scam.
